Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular dates for a proposal, with around 6 million couples likely to get engaged on this day each year. So, if you’re considering a Valentine’s Day proposal, you might be wondering how to make it stand out. The most important thing, of course, is to think about what makes you special as a couple – your history together, the things you love, the memories you’ve made. It’s also important to consider your partner. For example, a grand public gesture isn’t for everyone. It can all be a little confusing. But sometimes all you need is a little inspiration. Here are 10 great Valentine’s Day proposal ideas. Best of all, if you already have a ring, you can pull them all together in a couple of days!

The Valentine’s classic. Since it’s a Valentine’s Day proposal, why not lean into the holiday clichés? It’s actually a great way to throw them off the scent. Present your loved one with classic goodies – balloons, roses, a stuffed animal, and a big heart-shaped box of candy. Replace one of the chocolates inside with a ring for the perfect V-Day surprise!

Go on a romantic walk or hike. Take a leaf out of the Schitt’s Creek playbook and propose to your sweetheart in a beautiful setting during a walk or hike. If you’re at a viewpoint, suggest they snap a few pics, then get down on one knee and surprise them when they turn around.

Propose at home. There are so many great ways to propose at home and create a beautiful, intimate moment in a place that’s already your haven. For example, you could create a trail of candles and rose petals from the front door leading to you waiting with the ring. Set up a living room picnic. Or cook their favorite meal and propose over dessert. (Bonus: you won’t have to brave the Valentine’s restaurant crowds!)

Serve them breakfast in bed (with a ring on the side!) Even if your partner suspects a Valentine’s Day proposal is on the way, they probably won’t expect it in the morning. Deliver a delicious breakfast in bed with the ring box on the tray, or serve coffee in a mug that says ‘Just Engaged’ and then get down on one knee.

Go somewhere sentimental. This is a classic – but for a reason! Choose a favorite place or one that’s meaningful to your relationship, like the place you met or where you had your first date. Bring a dessert to celebrate with afterward.

Romantic movie night. If Netflix and chill is your date night style as a couple, plan a movie night on the couch. Put on her favorite romantic film and buy her favorite movie snacks. Then, during the film’s climax, turn to your partner and recite the most romantic lines before getting down on one knee and creating your own happy ending!

Spell it out. A fun way to propose is to spell out “Will you marry me?” somewhere your honey won’t expect to see it. For example, with fridge magnets or using glow-in-the-dark stars on your bedroom ceiling. If it’s a snowy day, you could even write out the question in your backyard.

Write a love letter. If you’re good with words, go for the old-fashioned option and write your partner a loved letter. Not only is it a beautiful way to propose, they’ll be able to keep and cherish your missive as the years go by. Every time they read it, it’ll take them right back to this moment!

Ask the question in a photo booth. A photo shoot has become a fun way to propose and get pics at the same time, but you don’t need to hire a photographer. Scope out an old-school photo booth and make sure it’s on the path to or home from your Valentine’s date. Pull your partner inside ‘on the spur of the moment’ and then pop the question. The photos will capture their reaction!

Puppy love. Your fur babies are a big part of your lives together, so why not include them in your proposal? Securely attach the ring to one of their collars and then get down on one knee.

I can’t wait to see all the Valentine’s Day proposal stories flood my feed! Good luck!

xoxo,
Mindy
