What is A Chaffle?

Chaffles, which stands for CHeese and wAFFLE (CHAFFLE), is a golden brown waffle-shaped disc of goodness. They’re are a bunch of different ways to make them, but I think this is the best chaffle recipe! They’re typically cooked in a Dash mini waffle maker, but you can use another waffle maker, but you may have to adjust the quantity of batter to get them to turn out full.

Of course I’m biased, but it’s not eggy tasting, has a bit more substance thanks to a wee bit of almond flour, and they have that lovely tang that gives them so much flavor.

How To Make The Best Chaffle Recipe

  1. Start by preheating your chaffle maker (mini waffle maker) as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. I find it helps to use a bit of cooking spray or oil to help those golden-brown chaffles release more easily.
  3. Add the egg whites to a bowl and whip with a fork until frothy. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  4. Add half the chaffle batter to the chaffle maker and close the lid, cooking it for about 4-5 minutes or until the chaffle is golden brown and releases easily.
  5. Repeat!

Chef Jenn’s Tips For Making This Keto Chaffle Recipe

  • Because of the sour cream, these aren’t the crispiest chaffles out there. They do, however, make a tasty chaffle sandwich and hold up to whatever else you might put on them.
  • Mix up the cheese – try havarti, gouda, Monterey Jack, or another mild cheese that melts well.
  • Use a full-fat sour cream for the best results.
  • Put the chaffle maker on top of a plate because it will likely ooze out some while cooking.

How to Serve Chaffles

Chaffle sandwiches are perfect for lunch, top them with bacon and egg for a tasty breakfast, use them as a taco shell, or just snack on them! I also love a toasty chaffle next to a hearty bowl of soup. Or, spread them with this tasty onion dip for a tasty snack. Also be sure to try these keto vegetable waffles.

Can You Freeze Chaffles?

Yes! You sure can! Wrap cooled chaffles in plastic wrap and then a layer of foil or pop them into a freezer-safe zipper-top bag and freeze for up to three months.

To reheat chaffles, pop them in the microwave for about 20 seconds to thaw them. Then, I find it best to re-toast them in the chaffle maker.

Are chaffles keto?

Yes! Eggs, cheese, sour cream and a touch of almond flour go into these chaffles, and those are all keto-friendly ingredients!

Can I make chaffles without a waffle maker?

Yes! Just cook the batter in a non-stick skillet until golden brown.

Can I make chaffles without almond flour?

Yes, you can! I prefer them with a bit of almond flour as they have a bit more texture and substance.
