Myths about nightfall

Despite all the medical awareness, people still tend to lack knowledge about nightfall in men. This is particularly due to the persisting taboo associated with discussing the matter of nightfall even with peers. Though there is easy access to information in the present day, not much reliable information regarding nightfall in men is available out there. For these reasons men still continue to be frightened by the myths surrounding nightfall in men.

We are hereby putting forth a short note to help bust the most common myths about nightfall:

  1. Nightfall is always considered to be a sign of illness, which is not absolutely true. We have already detailed on the various causes of nightfall in men and it is clear that nightfall is mostly a normal part of male sexuality. Though sometimes it may be secondary to some long standing medical problem.
  2. It is feared that nightfall may shrink the male sex organ. Nightfall does not cause the size of the male sex organ to reduce. Besides it is good to be aware that sexual health does not depend on the size of the male sex organ.
  3. A common myth is that nightfall makes a person weak and lowers his immunity, which is not true.
  4. Nightfall is feared to reduce a man’s sperm count. Nocturnal emission only causes the stored sem*n to be released and help with new, healthy sperm formation.

Sometimes men facing difficulty in impregnating their partners may be excessively troubled by the idea of nightfalls being the possible culprit.

Can nightfall cause infertility?

There is no reason to link infertility with nightfall in men. Even if the man is found to have a low sperm count during infertility evaluation, there is no reason to believe that it could be associated with nightfall. Nightfall does not cause low sperm count in men. It only releases the sem*n stored and new sperm production continues within the testes.

Other possible causes for male infertility need to be looked for.

Can nightfall lead to impotence?

Impotence if at all associated with nightfall is mostly due to psychological reasons. It is a popular myth that nightfall leads to tiredness and inability to perform vigorous physical or sexual activity. There occurs reduced sexual desire due to the perception that having sex and ejacul*ting will lead to further tiredness. So the truth is that nightfall in men does not lead to impotence as long as one does not get excessively stressed out about the essentially natural phenomenon.

For men suffering psychological stress due to frequent nightfall, most of the times some natural remedies and lifestyle changes may suffice to bring the problem under control.

How to prevent nightfall naturally?

  1. Adopting relaxation techniques such as yoga and meditation before going to bed may reduce nocturnal emissions by relieving stress and calming down the mind and body.
  2. Consuming ripe leaves of bottle gourd may help relieve insomnia and reduce frequency of nocturnal emissions.
  3. Consuming 2-3 cups of yoghurt in a day has shown to be effective in reducing nightfall in men.
  4. Gooseberries are natural antioxidants which improve general health and may help prevent nightfall in men
  5. One should avoid watching p*rn or reading sensual material at bedtime.
  6. Urinating before bed time will keep the bladder empty and prevent triggering of nocturnal emissions.
  7. If men tend to experience frequent episodes of involuntary sem*n leakage, it could be a sign of weak perineal muscles. Kegels exercises to strengthen the perineal muscles done regularly may be of help in reducing nightfall in such situations. Kegels exercise involves alternatingly contracting and relaxing the perineal muscles.
  8. Onions and garlics had in the form of salads are known to show benefits in curbing nightfall problem.
  9. Your daily diet should contain ginger, bananas and presoaked almonds so as to reduce nightfall episodes.
  10. Celery and fenugreek are also shown to be helpful in curbing nightfall problem when included in the diet,

As we have mentioned earlier, prolonged sexual inactivity may be one of the triggering reasons for nightfall in men. Having understood that, many men wonder if masturbating will help relieve sexual deprivation and reduce incidence of nightfall.

Masturbation – a solution for nightfall?

While masturbation may reduce the frequency of nightfall possibly by decreasing the build up of sexual tension, it does not guarantee a person will never experience nightfall again.

As the saying goes “everything in excess is opposed to nature”. When it comes to masturbating in excess so as to prevent nightfall, the saying holds true. If a person attempts at too frequent masturbation, there will occur hormonal imbalances in his body which may further lead to disturbing the nervous system which regulates sexual activity. Such impaired nervous system control over sexual activity may further worsen nightfall in men.

To be concise, nightfall or wet dream in men is a normal physiological process which has no known harmful side effects apart from psychological impact owing to inadequate knowledge about the same.

Now that nightfall in men has been dismissed as harmless, it is sufficient if the psychological aspect is handled well. Men need to try and be free of guilt as nightfall is no perversion and nothing to feel ashamed of. Being open with the partner or a friend or even a sexologist will help in dealing with the situation and leading a healthy sexual life.
