This review is based on the first three episodes of Season 2. Episode descriptions are as follows:

EPISODE 202 – Grandma’s Hands

EPISODE 203 – Curved
When Dijonay starts dating the leader of their debate rival team, her friendship with Penny suffers, making Penny increasingly jealous and scared their friendship may not survive.

The Proud Family is back and returns with 10 more charming, witty, funny, and heart warming episodes. The animation is bright and colorful, and the stories are very current that deal with modern-day topics and issues.

Season 1 of “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” ends with The Proud Family attending Suga Mama’s family reunion at a ranch in Oklahoma. Season 2 picks right up from there and also gives a nice little recap from the last season. Of course, the slapstick puns are even better this season. During a pig race on the farm, the audience can hear the announcer calling out “Hamela Anderson from Haywatch.” There are also plenty of heartfelt moments in these episodes too, especially between Penny and Suga Mama her mom Trudy and her best friend Dijonay. Episode 3 starts off a little slow, but viewers will be rewarded with a fun surprise at the end.

Episode 2 is easily the most memorable of the first three episodes. Penny ends up staying at Suga Mama’s house and figures out pretty quickly that life at Grandma’s isn’t what she thought it would be as Suga Mama delivers some tough love to a rebellious Penny. Penny ultimately triumphs in the end but the hilarious antics that take place in this episode are downright hysterical.

The music throughout the episodes is always a nice bonus. Songs are upbeat and current and set the mood for modern-day American teenager stories.Kurt Farquhar, the lauded television and film composer, songwriter and producer who wrote and composed “The Proud Family” original theme song, reimagined it for the revival. Farquhar also co-wrote an original song, “You’re Lucky I Let You Love Me,” with Normani, Mariah Meshae and Nkenge Kamau, for the upcoming season. Normani will also provide vocals on several original songs. In addition to Farquhar, who serves as series music composer and songwriter, Ashley Neumeister (“American Soul”) is on board to music supervise the second season.

Overall, all ages will enjoy Season 2 of “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” however it is more geared toward tweens or teens. The series is lively, spirited, and laugh out loud funny while delivering positive messages.

In addition to Smith and Farquhar, Calvin Brown, Jr. (“Moesha”) is co-executive producer and story editor, Jan Hirota (“Big Hero 6 The Series”) is producer, Eastwood Wong (“Carmen Sandiego”) is art director, and directors are Latoya Raveneau (“Rise Up, Sing Out”), Rudi Bloss (“DC Super Hero Girls”) and Tara Nicole Whitaker (“Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure”). Theseries is produced by Disney Television Animation.
