Beautiful inside out, I cannot believe a self-help non-fiction read would be this pretty, practical and promising!

Divided into two parts, the first part explains in simple words what self-help means and how we perceive it as. This part becomes quite helpful and insightful when it comes to us understanding our inability to practice it even though we understand it.

The second part is the major portion of the book which delivers as exactly how the title presents.

This book is all about practising self-love. Even if we're willing to do the same but the moment you read this book, you will come to realise we do not actively practice as much as we want. When it comes to our own selves it's just easier to neglect ourselves and become the root cause of our problem without even realising it. Yes, this book reminds us of this tiny information.

Just telling ourselves to practice self-love isn't enough. Like telling someone eat chicken curry without telling them the recipe. We have to start from somewhere and if a book like this is there to supplement on how to take care of ourselves, then why not?!

The writing is fun and quite convincing. Self-help books tend to sound like they're nagging but (thankfully!) this one doesn't.

I just love the pages with quotes. They are so beautiful! And about the taking action parts, they will make you think first. Yes, it starts from there and I find them quite helpful. The exercises start there itself.

This is the kind of book you would want to keep by your side at all times....more so because it's so beautiful and quite helpful!

Thank you Publisher and Authors for the advanced readers copy.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Self Love: 100+ quotes, reflections and activities is exactly what the cover describes. This book is a beautifully put together book of self-help methods mixed with reflective thoughts and questions, beautiful and meaningful quotes, activities to help centre your mindfulness and self love through daily life and comforting words and ideas to help you practice self love daily.
The layout of this book is beautiful and relaxing and the book itself is divided into two sections - information about what self-love is and how we tend to generally perceive it, and then the reflective parts, activities, quotes etc.
This book is a fantastic resource to help everyone practice self love and recognise ways to do it, ways we don't do it, find time to do it and be at peace with it when we do do it. I often feel selfish for having some "me" time as I have children, but this book has helped me understand the need to have it and other ways I can practice self-love without feeling guilty.
I highly recommend this book, especially with the current pandemic and stresses and strains of daily life.

This book covers a variety of topics related to building self-love. I appreciated the structure of this book and thought the action steps were especially helpful as they provided opportunities for reflection and ways to address the topics. I liked how the author used metaphors throughout the book to describe the topics. I also like the formatting and thought visually appealing.

I was hoping for more depth from this book. It has helpful topics for someone wanting to improve their quality of self-love, but it was very basic. I also really had issue with some of the language this book uses and the simplification of problems faced by populations, It often sent the message of encouraging the reader to turn challenges into strengths, without acknowledging the impact of society and biases from others. I don't think every challenge needs to be reframed into a strength. I don't think for my own self-love development I should need to reframe my chronic health issue as a power; that doesn't work for me and ignores my experience. I think the author should have taken time in the book to delve into the complexities if they were going to reference complex topics.

I was given a digital ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Oh, my word! Firstly huge thanks to the publisher for my ARC. I thought I knew what self-love but I was wrong. This book was an eye-opener on what self-love is and practises of self-love one can do. I totally recommend this book although it seems to start a tad bit slow and could demotivate you because it reads like a scientific book it gets better and the colors on the pages are everything. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone in need of self-love and don't know where to start

Overall this is a great helpful read. There are a few things that are situational & specific & could make one’s issues worse.
For example, if someone is anxiously using retail therapy & over-shopping, they shouldn’t go get themselves something nice to love themselves.
There’s only a handful of these potentially harmful suggestions.
(& yes for some people they could be helpful, but self development books shouldn’t generalize & say such things as definitive solutions.)
Besides this, the book is well written, concise & pretty.
I do wish it was less effeminate because I know several men who could use the advice. The format is great in short sections with actionable suggestions at the end of each.
If you’re diving deep into your psyche do know it’s short & not extremely detailed. However, it’s still great to add to your reading. I read it at night to fall asleep & it was a way great way to fall asleep with the reminder to love myself instead of letting my mind wander & worry as happens to many of us in modern life.
If you’re just starting out on your journey of self love, managing mental health & CBT, it’s a great way to start by dipping your toes.
I will likely gift this book often.

**I received an ARC from the publisher on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely LOVED Self-Love! If we're honest with ourselves, we all struggle with self love and I love how Devi B. Dillard-Wright wrote this book. It wasn't a self help book. It did give some adivce but it was practical. Devi starts off claiming to not cure you but to offer quotes and reflections to help you love yourself. This will be a book I buy and have lots of highlighted texts and notes in the margin. It's worth reading!

When I first read half the book, "The things you can see only when you slow down" pop up in my mind. This book does help to reflect on our relationship with ourselves and how our perception of our surroundings could shape us for better or worse.

It is beautifully written and consists of many beautiful quotes, great insight, and reminders, similar to 1000+ Little Habits and Haenim Sunim Book. So for those whor* looking for a light book to start to work on the relationship with themselves, I'd say this book is the first step :)

It’s a DNF because the most value I got from this book was at the beginning. I took a lot of notes when the author was explaining self love. After that introduction, the book is just a bunch of tips and quotes on how to practice self love. Obviously, I knew this. The title says it. I just didn’t expect these tips to be so basic. I’ve read these tips a million times in articles and books before, so it didn’t seem worth my time to read them again just so I could finish the book. This book might be for someone, but that someone isn’t me.

This book is exactly as described—daily meditations on self-love with exercises to help make the concepts more concrete. Somehow, I expected something with more depth—a more scholarly or science-based approach, maybe? But I can't fault the book for being what it says it is. The meditations and exercises are useful and inspiring when you're looking for a little pick-me-up.

I received and read an advance copy of this book. This is my voluntary review. All opinions are my own.

Thank you Netgalley & Adam's media for sending me a copy of Self-Love by Devi B. Dillard-Wright. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Self Love follows the understanding, practices and power of self love. The book is a beautiful, raw and eye opening experience. The wording was lovely and informative and the progression was well placed. I look forward to reading more by Dillard-Wright and this book gave me so much to think about, in an amazing way.

I really tried with this book, but could not finish— I don't think the book is to blame as much as it's the digital copy's fault. A lot of the chapters seemed broken and crossed out, and it took away from the flow of reading. I also found the incessant warning of it being an ARC repeated every other page very annoying. The book is partially a journal, and it would have been great to actually get the feel of the book, as opposed to going back and forth to make sure it's all there or having to skip three pages to get to the next word. I would suggest checking out a physical copy if you are interested in this.

Thanks netgalley for the e-ARC.

I loved the quotes, they are really mind-resting but it was nothing different then other self - help/ self - love books I read before.

Thank you NetGalley, Devi B. Dillard - Wright and Adams Media for this ARC.
