31 Biblical Affirmations {I Am...} - Christian Counseling (1)

Last weekend our family went jeeping. It was a warm sunny day and the doors and top of the jeep were removed. Sunglasses were a must have for this day trip. I cleaned my sunglasses and put them on. Ahhh-relief from the glaring sun. As the sun beat down, sunscreen was applied to every face and set of shoulders in the jeep. Overspray misted my sunglasses. My son handed them back to me with his prints all over them and we were off again.

As the time passed, dusty roads stuck to my lenses. As a result, my view was getting worse and worse because the lenses were filthy with sunscreen, dust and fingerprints. Since it happened slowly over the day, I didn’t realize how tainted my view had become until I took the sunglasses off. I cleaned them before putting them back on. My lenses were completely clear again-how did I let them get so dirty and mess up my beautiful mountain views?

Untrue Affirmations

Our lives are like that as well. Negative self talk, harsh words from others and hard circ*mstances make it difficult to see ourselves clearly. By clearly, I mean through the lens of Truth. The lens through which we view ourselves has a pretty powerful impact on how we live our lives every single moment of every single day.

Negative self talk, harsh words from others and hard circ*mstances make it difficult to see ourselves clearly.

We say untrue things to ourselves, like… “I’m not loved”, “I’m not strong”, “I’m not enough”, “I’m not protected”, “I’m not seen” or “I’m all alone”. But, here’s the Truth (straight from the Bible)- God says otherwise. He says, “You are loved”, “You are strong”, “You are enough”, “You are protected”, “You are seen” and “You are never alone”.

When the words we say to ourselves are not based on the words God says about us, we must take those thoughts captive. The way we clean the lens through which we see ourselves requires God’s Word. This is where Biblical affirmations will change your life! Check out the list below for “I am” affirmations from the Bible. Get a free printable of all “31- I Am Affirmations from the Bible”.

Wrapping up Biblical Affirmations

When I meditate on who God says ‘I am’- I sit up straighter, I feel better. The thoughts/beliefs we have about ourselves lead to emotions. Are you feeling badly about yourself? Then your thoughts/beliefs need to be lined up with God’s Truth about who you are.

If Christians believed who God says they are, they would be the most confident people in the world!
