31 Biblical I Am Affirmations Of Who God Says You Are In Christ (2024)

What you say matters, but what you say to yourself may matter most. In leadership, the toughest person to lead is yourself. If you don't settle your identity in Christ it can make that task infinitely more tough. A self-spoken pep talk is beneficial but Tony Robbins didn't create affirmations, I dare say God did. Long before we had the word, we had the Word and God literally breathed us into existence with His Word.

31 Biblical I Am Affirmations Of Who God Says You Are In Christ (1)

One key aspect of being a kingdom driven leader is learning how to lead yourself. Unfortunately, at least in my experience I’ve found that is much harder than leading others. One big reason for this is that I tend to listen to the voices in my head. “You’re a failure” and variations of that are the most common accusation. Without using something like affirmations and reminding myself what God says about me, I’d be lost.

Affirmation is one of those words you often hear at a self-help seminar. The idea that what you say to yourself matters is pretty popular with motivational speakers and supposed gurus. There is one reason why what they teach is popular. Because it works and surprisingly it’s actually biblical. A self-spoken pep talk is beneficial but Tony Robbins didn’t create affirmations, I dare say God did. Long before we had the word, we had the Word and God literally breathed us into existence with His Word.

What Are Affirmations

If you want you can look up the actual definition, but for my purposes, “Affirmations are the things you say to yourself to help you change your attitude or some other aspect of yourself.”

How Do Affirmations Work?

I’m not going to go too deep into cognitive congruence or neural pathways here, but essentially you have two big factors working for you when you use affirmations. First and most importantly, your words have power (Proverbs 18:21). Secondly, when you say something out loud your brain starts to try to move toward what you said. Our subconscious mind feverishly looks for things it can systematize to make our lives easier (more efficient). That’s how habits are created and why they are so powerful. When you say “I can’t do it,” your brain seeks to confirm this and systematize it away so you can use your conscious mind to solve bigger problems. When you say, “I am courageous!” your brain also seeks to confirm this. Gears start turning in the background to begin to make those things true. This is an over simplification but this covers the basics.

Biblical vs “Positive” Affirmations

Not all affirmations are created equal. Saying, “I’m a millionaire” when you’re unemployed and living with your parents likely won’t change your circ*mstance. Saying over and over again, “people like me, people like me, people like me” won’t necessarily make people like you. It might help give you confidence that people like you. However, these type of affirmations are what I’d call positive affirmations. They are good and encouraging. However, there are more powerful affirmations available. Biblical affirmations are based on truth. God spoke these over us, His children, and we can simply claim them for ourselves. You can go from saying, “people like me” to “I am passionately loved.”

Below are some Biblical truths about what God says and thinks about you. These affirmations can be taken wholeheartedly and claimed over yourself. Simply writing this out at a resource for myself has made a huge difference in my mornings.

How To Use These I Am Affirmations

There are 31 of these I am affirmations. Ideally, you’d read each one out loud over yourself every day. In addition, you should review the scripture on each one and meditate on that one. This doesn’t have to take an hour, but a simple daily reminder that God loves you, made you and cares deeply about your future can really make a big difference.

I Am Affirmations

“I am” affirmations are not to be confused with “I AM.” We are never declaring that we are God or anything like that. Instead, we’re claiming the promises in the word of God and simply claiming what He’s already called us.

I am adopted into God’s family

For it was always in his perfect plan[a] to adopt[b] us as his delightful children, through our union with Jesus, the Anointed One, so that his tremendous love that cascades over us would glorify his grace[c]—for the same love he has for the Beloved, Jesus, he has for us. And this unfolding plan brings him great pleasure!Ephesians 1:5 TPT

I am a child of the King

But you are God’s chosen treasure[a]—priests who are kings,[b] a spiritual “nation” set apart as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light, and now he claims you as his very own. He did this so that you would broadcast his glorious wonders throughout the world.1 Peter 2:9 TPT

I am passionately loved

So now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us from God’s love. I’m convinced that his love will triumph over death, life’s troubles, fallen angels, or dark rulers in the heavens. There is nothing in our present or future circ*mstances that can weaken his love.Romans 8:38 TPT

Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.Psalm 139:14 NLT

I am provided for

So if God has clothed the meadow with hay, which is here for such a short time and then dried up and burned, won’t he provide for you the clothes you need—you of little faith? “So then, forsake your worries! Why would you say, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For that is what the unbelievers[a] chase after. Doesn’t your heavenly Father already know the things your bodies require? “So above all, constantly seek God’s kingdom[c] and his righteousness, then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly. Refuse to worry about tomorrow, but deal with each challenge that comes your way, one day at a time. Tomorrow will take care of itself.Matthew 6:30-35 TPT

Just as [in His love] He chose us in Christ [actually selected us for Himself as His own] before the foundation of the world, so that we would be holy [that is, consecrated, set apart for Him, purpose-driven] and blameless in His sight. Ephesians 1:4 AMP

I am fearless

Even when your path takes me through
the valley of deepest darkness,

I am covered in God’s Armor

Now my beloved ones, I have saved these most important truths for last:
Be supernaturally infused with strength through your life-union with the Lord Jesus. Stand victorious with the force of his explosive power flowing in and through you. Put on God’s complete set of armor provided for us, so that you will be protected as you fight against the evil strategies of the accuser!
Your hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings, but with the highest principalities and authorities operating in rebellion under the heavenly realms. For they are a powerful class of demon-gods and evil spirits that hold this dark world in bondage. Because of this, you must wear all the armor that God provides so you’re protected as you confront the slanderer, for you are destined for all things and will rise victorious. Put on truth as a belt to strengthen you to stand in triumph. Put on holiness as the protective armor that covers your heart. Stand on your feet alert, then you’ll always be ready to share the blessings of peace.
In every battle, take faith as your wrap-around shield, for it is able to extinguish the blazing arrows coming at you from the evil one! Embrace the power of salvation’s full deliverance, like a helmet to protect your thoughts from lies. And take the mighty razor-sharp Spirit-sword of the spoken word of God. Pray passionately in the Spirit, as you constantly intercede with every form of prayer at all times. Pray the blessings of God upon all his believers.Ephesians 6:10-18 TPT

I am enough

Everything we could ever need for life and godliness[a] has already been deposited in us by his divine power. For all this was lavished upon us through the rich experience of knowing him who has called us by name and invited us to come to him through a glorious manifestation of his goodness2 Peter 1:3 TPT
